Hitting your driver well gives most golfers the greatest amount of satisfaction, seeing that ball traveling through the air 250 meters down the middle of the fairway is a fantastic feeling.

Most amateur golfers get really worried when their ball ends up in a bunker. Physiologically they see it as a very difficult shot but in fact if you understand 3 key things then you will realize that getting the ball out the bunker is not as difficult as you first thought. Below are the three main things to understand.

Ask any professional and they will tell you that the most important part of the game is putting. This is where you can save many shots in a round. So why is it that very few golfers actually practice their putting?

Tip of September: Hitting your driver.

1 September 2009

Hitting your driver well gives most golfers the greatest amount of satisfaction, seeing that ball traveling through the air 250 meters down the middle of the fairway is a fantastic feeling. Unfortunately most of us don’t do it often enough so below I have put together some instruction that I hope will help you.

Pic 1

In this picture there are many things to look at, they are the following

  • Tee your ball up high
  • Have your ball position opposite your left heel
  • Have your feet slightly wider than normal
  • Have about 60 % of your weight on your right side at the start of the swing
  • Look at the back of the ball

Pic 2 and 3

This shows us a little exercise that will help give you the feeling of turning your body correctly, if you do the following exercise you will start to hit the ball further because you will be making a full shoulder turn which most amateurs fail to do.

  • Take your golfing posture and place a club across your shoulders
  • The idea is turn so as the club point down and behind the ball

This shows me in a nice balanced finish, a position most amateur golfers never get into, mainly because they try and hit the ball too hard.

  • Think and practice finishing in a balanced finish with your chest facing the target.

As usual if you have any golfing questions please feel free to ask.

Happy golfing
